Raymond Leroy Mann passed away Tuesday morning, September 10th with his family by his side. He was born in Del Norte, Colorado to Rufus and Hazel (French) Mann on August 4, 1935. His early childhood was spent in Creede, Colorado. He moved with his family to the Embargo Ranch west of Del Norte and attended grade school, junior high and high school in Del Norte, graduating in 1953. He was an all-American athlete.
Raymond attended Adam State College after graduating from high school. While he was at Adam State, he was a stand out on the basketball and football team; he played quarterback for the Indians. He graduated with a BA degree in business in 1958 and was a teacher and coach at Sargent from 1958 to 1963. He received his MA degree in administration in 1961 and served as the Sargent elementary principal from 1963-1966. From 1966-1972 Raymond served as the elementary principal at Monte Vista, Colorado. From 1972 to his retirement in 1991, Raymond served as the K-8 principal in Kremmling, Colorado. The faculty and students he served respected him and knew him to be strict, fair, and honest.
Raymond married his high school sweetheart Fern Rudd on May 14, 1954. Both attended Adam State College. While at Sargent, they were blessed with a daughter Robin and a son Kevin. Robin (David) Hebbel who blessed them with two grandsons, Jacob and Benjamin, now live in Montrose, Colorado. Their son Kevin (Gayle) live in Colquitt, Georgia.
Raymond & his wife Fern lived in Eaton for a short time after retirement and then moved to a small ranch north of Del Norte. As their health began to fail, they moved and purchased a home in Montrose to be near their daughter Robin.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Rufus and Hazel Mann, a brother Virgil Mann and two sisters, Marjorie Paulson and Gloria Taylor. He is survived by a brother Vernon (Maxine) Mann of Del Norte; a sister Lois (Lloyd) Rasmussen of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Beverley (Stew) Stewart of Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. We are thankful for the time he was given here on earth. We will miss him here but look forward to a heavenly reunion. Raymond chose cremation and the internment of his ashes will be in the family plot in the Del Norte Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 28th ,at 2:00 p.m. at the Pioneer United Church, 630 Spruce Street, Del Norte, CO The family has requested in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made in Ray’s name to Hope West & Hospice, P.O.
