San Antonio resident Margarita Elisa Martinez, 92, passed away June 23, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Margarita was born on May 18, 1921 in Ortiz, Colorado the daughter of Armenio Salazar and Rosabel Vigil Salazar. Margarita was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who enjoyed embroidering, cooking, sewing and above all the time she spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children Evila (Alfred) Gutierrez of Alamosa, CO; Ernest (Pauline) Martinez of Antonito, CO; Wilfred Martinez of Antonito, CO; Mary Lucero of Westminster, CO; John (Katy) Martinez of Antonito, CO; Christopher (Rowena) Martinez of Alamosa, CO; Gary (Karen) Martinez of Aurora, CO; Roddy (Donna) Martinez of Santa Fe, NM; Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Elva Salazar and Rosana Salazar both of Romeo, CO. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Margarita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Luis Emiliano Martinez, children Cristobal, Lawrence, John, John, Peggy and Evila Martinez, grandsons Joshua Lucero and Alfred Gutierrez Jr., great granddaughter Selina Mascarenas, sisters Rosanita and Albenia Salazar, Matilda Gallegos, Adonaisa Salazar, Ida Salazar, Romancita Vigil, brothers Marcelino Salazar and Doroteo Salazar.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. Another Rosary will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the La Jara Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito who is in care of the arrangements.
