Donna Sue Hampton (Payne), an Alamosa Native and longtime Alamosa resident, was called home by our Heavenly Father on February 8, 2013 at The Minnequa Medicenter in Pueblo where she has been residing since late 2009.
She was born September 1, 1940 to Luther “Butch” Payne and Madge (Rumsey). She married Newell Hampton of Cortez on 26 June 1959. The marriage ended in 1966 and she returned to Alamosa to raise her 2 sons. By nature a Healer and Caregiver, she worked at Evergreen Nursing Home and Alamosa Community Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and then as an LPN, earning her license through the San Luis Valley Vocational School in 1982. She spent several years as a Private Nurse, worked for a time as a visiting Nurse for The County Health Department as well as nursing homes in La Jara and Monte Vista. She loved Colorado and the Valley and was especially fond of riding the Cumbres and Toltec railroad during the fall and hunting in the San Juan mountains.
She is survived by her 2 sons; Rex of Mesa, Arizona and Mauri of Gainesville, Virginia, 6 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.
