Ernest E. Bloxsom

Ernest E. Bloxsom, died at home on April 13, 2013. He was with his loving wife of 66 years, Mary.

Ernie was born in Del Norte May 27, 1921 to Lloyd Fee and Bessie (Van Treese) Bloxsom. Ernie graduated from Sargent High School. He was a World War II veteran and served as a Motor SGT. In the 551st AA Battalion 3rd Army in European Theater, under General Patton, going in on Utah Beach. Ernie fought in five battles earning 5 battle stars, including two fairly famous ones, the battle of Normandy and the battle of the Bulge.

Upon his return from military service, he married Mary Elizabeth Getz on October 23, 1946, in Monte Vista.

Ernie actively farmed in the Sargent and Center area for twenty five years.

He was active in many local organizations, serving as Saguache County Commissioner for eight years, the San Luis Valley Irrigation Board, the Monte Vista CO-OP board and Kiwanis Club.

Ernie always had a love for horses, riding at 5 years of age, and driving gentle teams in the spud fields when he was about 9. Later from about 18 until he went into the service it fell to him to work the ornery, the obnoxious, and the unruly teams.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, packing, camping, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and jeeping in the mountains.

Preceding him in death are his parents Fee and Bessie Bloxsom, a brother Richard and a son Kurt.

Ernie is survived by his wife Mary, sons Jim (Ilene) Bloxsom, of Dothan, Alabama and Larry (Jan) Bloxsom of Clancy Montana. Four grandchildren Amy Meskimen, Montana, Wendy Bloxsom, Nevada, Roy (Hailie) Seaton, of Alabama, and Daniel (Sarah) Seaton of Massachusetts. Five great grandchildren Sophie & Hadley

Meskimen, Alexis, Hayden & Avery Seaton. Brother Bob (Phyllis) and two nieces and their families.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial service will be held Friday, April 19 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Center Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Center Ambulance.
