Capulin resident Filomena Librada Valdez, 86, passed away March 28, 2013 at the Evergreen Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Filomena was born on February 24, 1927 the daughter of Augustine Muniz and Angelita Gonzales Muniz. She was a member of the Altar Society at the St. Joseph Parish. Filomena loved to cook, solve word puzzles and cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughters Lucy (Ben) Brown of Fresco, TX; Barbara (Martin) Gonzales of Denver, CO; Mary Valdez of Parker, CO; Anna Salazar (Joseph Montoya) of La Jara, CO; sons Father Patrick Valdez of Cortez, CO; Lionel (Michelle) Valdez of Capulin, CO; Andrew Valdez of Sand Dunes, CO; sister Genevieve Maestas of Monte Vista, CO. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Filomena was preceded in death by her parents Augustine and Angelita Muniz, husband Maximo J. Valdez, daughter Bernadette Valdez, granddaughter Rachel Gonzales and many brothers and sisters.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa. Another will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM also at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin. Viewing and visitation will be held on Monday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa who is in care of the arrangements.
