La Jara resident Josef Albert Malouff, 37, passed away February 18, 2013. Joe was born on January 26, 1976 in La Jara, Colorado the son of Albert Malouff and Veronica Gallardo Malouff. Joe was a friend to many and a stranger to none. He was always first in line to lend out a helping hand. Joe was Captain of the La Jara Volunteer fire department, a member of the Conejos County search and rescue. He loved doing everything and anything with his boys and Shasta. Joe was an avid outdoorsman, doing just about anything including hunting, camping, fishing, team roping, riding snowmobiles, playing guitar and shooting pool. He loved spending time with his parents, siblings, cousins, uncles, aunts and friends. Joe always had a smile on his face. He was an amazing son, dad, brother, husband, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed by us all.
Survivors include his parents Albert and Veronica Malouff of Antonito, CO; wife Shasta Malouff of La Jara, CO; sons William and Waylon Malouff of La Jara, CO; brothers Gene (Deidra) Malouff of Riverview, FL; Ty Koenig of Sanford, CO; C.J. (Andrea) Koenig , of La Jara, CO; Ed (Laura) Koenig of Meeker, CO; Grant (Tamara) Koenig of Sanford, CO; sisters Eva Malouff of Colorado Springs, CO; Julie (Jason) Ramstetter of Alamosa, CO; Gabby Koenig of South Dakota, CO; Amanda (Andres) Garcia of Santa Fe, NM; Brandi (Michael) Peterson of Sanford, CO; nieces Sammy Jo, Brooke, Faron, Harmony, Hayden, Jolene, Anna, Axel, Taylor Nephews Logan, Gunnar, Hunter, Garrett, Jakob, Tayton, Trent, Jonathan, Dennis, Wyatt, Steven, Dillon, Eddie, Joey, Jerome, in-laws Dennis (Ruth) Koenig of Sanford, CO. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by grandparents Joe and Louise Malouff and two Uncles Mike Malouff and Eugene Gallardo.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 1:00 PM also at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Community Bank of La Jara for his sons William and Waylon Malouff.
