ARBOLES, CO — Longtime Monte Vista resident Max Irvin Deacon, 69, died February 10, 2013 at his lake home in Arboles.
Max was born on November 27, 1942 in Pueblo, Colorado to Warren G. “Hoot” Deacon and Betty Lorene Roberts Deacon. He married his wife Karen Thropp on November 23, 1966 in Monte Vista and they enjoyed more than 46 years together.
Max owned and operated Deacon Insurance Agency in Monte Vista since 1974. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Monte Vista earning his 32nd degree and was a member of the Shriners. Max was very active and served on the Ski High Stampede Committee for 39 years.
In his spare time Max enjoyed traveling, spending time at his cabin in Creede and boating and fishing at Navajo Lake. Max was an avid fan of the Yankees and the Rockies. He was also a long time Denver Broncos fan.
Max is survived by his wife Karen Deacon of Monte Vista; his children Janine (Andy) White of Austin, TX and Matthew Deacon of Monte Vista; his grandchildren Kyle and Heath White, Jacob, Rebecca and Catie Deacon; his brother Michael (Vickie) Deacon of Edwards, CO and sister Tracy (David) Price of Phoenix, Arizona.
He is preceded in death by his mother Betty Deacon on January 1, 2013, his father Warren “Hoot” Deacon on January 17, 2013 and his sister Karen David on August 5, 2005.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Monte Vista. A gathering will be held immediately following the services at the Nazarene Church Fellowship Hall in Monte Vista. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Max Deacon Memorial Fund that will be used for the Stampede Committee and the Rally in the Valley in Max’s memory.
