ALAMOSA — Longtime and well known Alamosa resident Grace I. Andre, 100, died January 28, 2013 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa.
Grace was born on the 4th of December, 1912 in Las Animas, Colorado to Edgar F. and Josie Mae Hiatt Hively. Her family moved from Las Animas to Boulder, Colorado when she was nine years old. She graduated from Boulder High School in 1933 and a year later married John D. Andre on March 9, 1934. They would spend the next 73 years together until his death on May 28, 2007.
Grace was a homemaker and a seamstress. She enjoyed playing Bridge and spending winters in Arizona and other travels. One of her favorite past time activities was playing golf.
Grace is survived by her children John E. Andre of Homelake, CO, Robert O. (Wilma) Andre of Longmont, CO, Howard L. Andre of Frederick, CO, Charlene M. (Ron) Green of Alamosa and Bertie L. (Travis) Smith of Alamosa; as well as twenty grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, four sisters, one brother, a daughter-in-law, one son-in-law and one grandson.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 8th followed by a Funeral Service 2:00 pm. Saturday, February 9, 2013, both at the Rogers Family Mortuary Chapel in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
