HOUSTON, Texas — Former South Fork resident, Mary Jean Hayward, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012 in Houston, Texas, at the age 80.
Mary was born March 5, 1932, to Mark Girard and Della Welch Mathews in Lovell, Wyoming. She was raised in Cowley, Wyoming, then moved to California where she met and married Bobby Samuel Hayward. During their 58 years of marriage, Mary and Bob raised their family in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, before retiring to South Fork in 1995. Faithful members of the Del Norte Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mary and Bob were sealed for eternity in the Denver Temple on August 16, 1997. From 2006 - 2009, they served as Family History missionaries in Salt Lake City, Utah and the Clayton Library in Houston, Texas. They returned to South Fork until the spring of 2011, when Mary’s health led them back to Houston.
Mary is survived by her husband, Bobby Hayward; their children, Barbara Hayward, Cindy Hayward, Sam Hayward (JoAnne), and Suzan Karl (Cory); their grandchildren, Cody Karl, Brandy Karl, Christian Hayward, Kyle Karl, Ryan Karl, and Skyler Karl; and sisters, Marie Moore and Pearl Mickelsen.
Mary has been laid to rest in the Canon Mathis Cemetery in Waller, Texas.
