CAPULIN — Capulin resident Jose Alfredo Lopez, 98, passed away December 25, 2012 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Alfredo was born on January 19, 1914 in Capulin, Colorado the son of Lauriano Lopez and Apolonia Ruybal. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. Alfredo was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed building things, carpentry, playing the saxophone, gardening, doing volunteer work for the church, and enjoyed his time outdoors especially in his wood shop.
Survivors include his sons Fred (Linda) Lopez of Lakewood, CO; Dennis (Sally) Lopez of Alamosa, CO; Jimmy Lopez of Capulin, CO; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law Ignacita Valdez of La Jara, CO. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jose Alfredo was preceded in death by his wife Corina Lopez, parents Lauriano and Apolonia Lopez, step-mother Bersabe Lopez, brothers Aaron Lopez, Alberto Lopez, Modesto Dominguez, one sister Vitalia Archuleta, sisters-in-law Celia Valdez and Angelina Lopez, brothers-in-law Elias Valdez and Antonio Archuleta.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 7:00 pm at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10:00 am at
St. Joseph Church in Capulin. Interment will follow at the Capulin Cemetery with full military honors. Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday and Friday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa who is in care of the arrangements.
