ROMEO — Romeo resident Catalina Herrera, 96, passed away October 30, 2012 at her daughter Ruth’s home under hospice care surrounded by her loving family. Catalina was born on April 2, 1916 in No Agua, New Mexico the daughter of Jose Belarmino Espinoza and Lucia Martinez Espinoza. Catalina was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister who enjoyed gambling, crocheting, sewing, canning, gardening flowers and above all, the time she spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughters Vayola Vigil and Loyda Herrera both of Farmington, NM; Lucy Herrera of Flora Vista, NM; Ruth (William) Beal of Alamosa, Colo.; sons Eli O. (Mary) Herrera Jr., of Aztec, NM; Richard Henry (Eleanor) Herrera of Farmington, NM; 26 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, one brother Armando (Florence) Espinoza. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Catalina was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eli Herrera Sr. who passed away October 29, 1993, two infant granddaughters, one infant son, one grandson Gilbert Vigil and several brothers and sisters.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa. Another Rosary will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the St. Theresa Catholic Church in Manassa. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. also at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
