MONTE VISTA — Monte Vista resident Marcella Rose McFarland, 74, passed away October 23, 2012 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Marcella was born on March 31, 1938 in Alamosa, Colorado the daughter of Milburn Horn and Josie Shields Horn. Marcella briefly worked in social work, was a graduate of Adams State College, where she earned her degree in teaching; she taught and retired from the Del Norte School District. Marcella was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed playing the piano, taking care of people, singing, spending time in the foothills and being with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband Kenny McFarland of Monte Vista, Colo.; one daughter Rachel Salazar of Del Norte and Paul Espinoza of Monte Vista, Colo.; one son Caleb Salazar of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren Danielle (Henry) Martinez of Monte Vista, Colo.; Larissa Salazar, Jasmine Salazar, Josiah Espinoza- Salazar, Jesse Salazar-Espinoza, Naomi Salazar- Espinoza and Yakira Salazar-Espinoza all of Del Norte, Kelby Salazar, Cali Salazar and Khalil Salazar all of Denver, Colo.; one great-grandchild Francesca Martinez and two more on the way. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents Milburn and Josie Horn, one sister Laurene Neubauer and one brother Steve Horn and first husband Tomas T. Salazar.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church located at 2160 Sherman Ave. in Monte Vista, Colorado. Interment will follow at the Monte Vista Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday from 1-5 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Monte Vista who is in care of the arrangements.
