Charles Chester Gammill, 87, was born February 6, 1925 and died October 27, 2012. Charlie went to Sargent High School and carried a 3.5 grade point average and was an avid sport enthusiast. He lettered in football, basketball, and track for three years.
Right out of high school he joined the service, and was in the Merchant Marines on a supply ship at the end of WWII. He retuned home and worked on the family farm in Sargent. He also worked in a tire shop. Then the Korean War came about and he was drafted. He could have fought the draft as he had already served in WWII, but said “If my country needs me I’ll go.” He went into the Army as a sergeant 1st class and fought the Koreans until the war ended.
Then he went to barber school and remained a barber for 43 years.
Charlie loved to fish and he also enjoyed all sports but most of all he loved the Denver Broncos.
He was life member of the Elks Lodge # 2456 and also a Past Commander of The American Legion post #53 James G. Hamilton.
Services will be held at the Elks Lodge # 2456 in Monte Vista Colorado on November 3, 2012 at 2 p.m.
