TUCSON, Ariz. — Grace O’Bannon, former resident of the Del Norte and South Fork area, peacefully passed away with family at her side September 9th, after years of battling Alzheimers disease. She had just turned 92 and had spent the last seven years living in Tucson, Arizona.
She will be missed, not only by her family and friends, but also by the residents and caretakers at Desert Steppes Assisted Living with whom she shared her last years. Those who knew her valued her agreeable nature, her wit, her love of music, and her respect for others.
Grace was active in Twin Mountain Ladies Aide, the Pioneer United Church, PEO, and several bridge clubs. But don’t think she just socialized! She always had a yard and beautiful flowers, was a great cook, loved her family and grandkids above all and gave of herself generously.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte O’Bannon of Tucson, Ariz., her son, Randy and his wife Janet of Durango, plus her grandchildren, Mason and Sydney O’Bannon of Durango and Todd and Clay Corzine of Center, and her six great grandchildren.
There will be a “Remembering Grace” ceremony at the Pioneer United Church, 630 Spruce St. in Del Norte on October 12 at 11 am. with refreshments to follow. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Douglas, and her son, Richard at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia, New Mexico.
