PUEBLO — Marie Valdez Martinez, 92, was born on February 17, 1920 at Los Valdeses (Seven Mile Plaza), Colorado and passed away on August 31, 2012 in Pueblo, Colorado.
Marie was raised in the San Luis Valley, moved to San Mateo, Calif., then returned to Pueblo with her husband, Raymond. She lived her last four years at Legacy Commons Assisted Living at Pueblo West and at University Park Care Center, Pueblo.
She was preceded in death by parents Carlos Borromeo Valdez and Estrella (Trujillo) Valdez; husband, Raymond Martinez; brother, Herman Valdez; infant sisters, Josephine and Jane; son, Reginald Martinez; and daughter, Rosemarie Martinez.
She is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Thomas; grandchildren, Julian (María) Martinez and Syed Bairfield; nephews and niece Carl (Gretchen) Valdez, Jerry Valdez and Carol Kinn; great-grandchildren and extended family, including Isabel and Paul Pacheco of Monte Vista, their daughters Christie Martin and Natalie Martinez, and their children in Pueblo.
Marie with her husband Ray led a life of service to others, beginning with their own family of adopted and foster children and extending to their church, whether in Monte Vista and Pueblo, or in San Mateo, California. They were especially committed to carrying the message of Christ to the sick.
Marie will be remembered for her love and her acute sense of humor and wit.
Interment and Final Commendation was on September 6, 2012 at Imperial Memorial Gardens, Pueblo. Memorials may be made to the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Pueblo.
