LOBATOS — Lobatos resident Maria Ursina Lujan, 88, passed away March 14, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Maria was born on March 18, 1922 in Llano Largo, New Mexico, the daughter of Juan Martinez and Rafelita Gutierrez Martinez.
Maria was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Survivors include her daughters Tresa Audrey (Charles) Hicks, Angela Duran both of Lobatos, Colo.; sons Jose Vivian (Lena) Lujan of Las Vegas, Nev.; Lorenzo Lujan and Ricky (Cordelia) Lujan both of Lobatos, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sisters Lydia Paiz of Albuquerque, N.M.; Beatrice (Manuel) Brown of Silver City, N.M. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, husband Juan Lujan, daughter Candelaria Duran, granddaughter Tammy Lujan, brothers Rutelio, Labrencio, Melecio, and Frank Martinez, and sisters Lupe Muniz and Donelia Gonzalez.
A Vigil service with recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Holy Family Church in Lobatos. Another rosary will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Holy Family Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Holy family Church. Interment will follow at the La Florida Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday and Friday from 1-5 p.m. at the Holy Family Church in Lobatos. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.
