Jose Feliberto Chavez, 61
ALAMOSA — Alamosa, Colo. resident Jose “Fil” Feliberto” Chavez, 61, passed away Nov. 13, 2009 at his home, under hospice care surrounded by his loving family. Fil was born Aug. 20, 1948 in Alamosa the son of Boney Chavez and Jean Herrera Chavez.
He was veteran of the United States Navy and enjoyed wood work, gambling, machinist, fishing and horseback riding.
Survivors include his loving companion Barbara Davis of Alamosa; one daughter Maria Elena (Dana) Saunders of Alamosa; one son Fil Chavez Jr. of Alamosa; step-children Robert and Angela Davis of Romeo, Alisha Keller of Springfield, Mo; grandchildren Devon Chavez of Gilbert, Ariz., Xavier Saunders of Alamosa, Mara Saunders of Alamosa; six step-grandchildren; five sisters Berline (Ernie) Wooten of Alamosa, Susan (Freddy) Lettig of Alamosa, Frieda (Kenn) Jones of Colorado Springs, Marie (Bruce) Veum of Franktown, Colo., Darlene Chavez of Alamosa; one brother Larry (Lori) Chavez of El Paso, Texas as well as by several nieces, nephews, cousins, numerous aunts and uncles.
Fil was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A vigil service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Mon., Nov. 16, 2009 at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tue., Nov. 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. ast the church. Interment will follow at Alamosa Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Hospice Del Valle, 514 Main St. Alamosa, CO 81101 in his memory. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
