Donald Dean Graf, 73
ALAMOSA — Alamosa, Colo. resident Donald Dean Graf, 73, died in his home in Alamosa. Don was born in Columbus, Neb. on Nov. 11, 1935 the son of John Derluth Graf, Jr. and Lydia Lucille Schleiger.
Don graduated from Denver East High School in 1953. After graduating, Don joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1957. Following his service in the military Don attended Lamar Junior College and Adams State College, earning degrees at both schools.
He spent a lifetime in teaching and coaching. He will always be remembered by his athletes as a friend and caring leader. Never short of words, Don published several books of poetry and received numerous awards.
He fathered four children during his walk through life and his family members and friends mourn at the sudden loss but will always smile when remembering their time with him.
He is survived by the mother of his daughters Ilene Cooney; daughters Dawn Graf-Thiessan and Joan B. (Rick) Graf; son Jesse Sunshine Graf; granddaughters Delany, Olivia, Aubrey and Ireland as well as the countless friends that all know he considered as family.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, his brother John III, his daughter Heather and several beloved friends he held with respect and love.
Cremation was chosen and a graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Tue., Nov. 17, 2009 at the Alamosa Cemetery. Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa is in care of the arrangements.
