Maria Manuelita Lucero, 92



ALAMOSA — Maria, 92, passed away at home on Nov. 4, 2009 under hospice care with loving family surrounding her. She was born Jan. 20, 1917, to Pedro and Rosalbina Sanchez Lucero in Los Brazos, N.M. The family moved to Alamosa when she was about

six years old and resided here until her death. She married Joseph F. Lucero Jan. 26, 1931, and he preceded her in death Nov. 7, 1987, after 56 years of marriage.

She was married at a young age and gave birth to their 9th child when she was only 26 years old. One six month old infant, Gilbert, also preceded her in death.

She was a loving mother and homemaker who enjoyed family gatherings, dancing, parties, soap operas, and was an avid Bronco fan. She enjoyed the EWTN Catholic Network.

Survivors include her children Charles, Beatrice, Judy (Boni) Romero of Alamosa, Regina (Tom) Bechtold of Albuquerque, Joseph F. Jr. of Pasadena, Calif., Loretta (Eddie) Salazar of Denver, Eleanor (David) Chandler of Northglenn, Ralph (Kathy) Lucero of Loveland, Jocelyn of Canon City, Connie (Steve) Medina of Kennedale, Texas; sisters Rose Maes of Blanca, Sofia Barletta of La Habra Heights, Calif; brother Rudy (Margaret) Lucero of Security as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and including five generations of 28 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren.

Others preceding her in death including spouses, after parents are one sister Isabel (Frank) Benavidez, brothers Ralph, Tony (Jenrose), Reynaldo J, Preston and Noah, granddaughter Donna Rae, great grandsons Paul Angelo and Steven Michael, daughter-in-law Betty Lucero and brother-in law-Charles Barletta.

A vigil service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Mon., Nov. 9, 2009 at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tue., Nov. 10, 2009 at 1p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Alamosa Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held in Friday and Monday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home who is in care of the arrangements.
