La GARITA — La Garita, Colo. resident Alan Lee Holcomb, 43, died Nov. 4, 2009 at his home near La Garita under hospice care. Alan was born Oct. 16, 1966 in Englewood, Colo. the son of George R. and Florence “Flossie” E. Kidwell Holcomb. He married his wife of more than 15 years, Jenene M. Neely on Nov. 22, 1993 in Alamosa.

Alan owned and operated Rio Grande Power Line Construction as a lineman. He experienced much throughout his line of work and took great pride restoring power lines after many natural disasters including floods, tornados, or other weather related issues. He tried raising alfalfa for a short time and loved working with his tractor. Alan graduated from the Alamosa High School in 1985 and his pitching on the baseball team led them to their first playoff in 23 years. He also enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing, and he was an avid outdoorsman. His greatest love was spending time with his family, and especially supporting his children in their sports events and activities.

Alan served as a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marines during Desert Storm and Desert Shield in the Gulf War. He was honorably discharged in 1992.

He is survived by his wife Jenene Holcomb and their children Brittany Jean Elizabeth Holcomb and Caleb Lee Holcomb of the family home; his parents George and Florence “Flossie” Holcomb of Alamosa; his father-in-law Jerry Neely of Ordway; his brothers and sister Ralph (Kristen) Holcomb of Monte Vista, Debbie Holcomb of Alamosa and Clay (Brenda) Holcomb of San Antonio, Texas as well as by his nieces and nephews Landon, Josh, Kayla and Natalie.

His mother-in-law Bonnie Neely preceded him in death.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at 2 p.m. Sat., Nov. 7, 2009 at the Center United Methodist Church in Center. Contributions are suggested to the Holcomb children’s education fund in care of the Del Norte Federal Bank or through the funeral home office. Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista is in care of the arrangements.
