Virgil Huston Flickinger, 95



SAN LUIS VALLEY — Virgil Huston Flickinger, 95, died Oct. 31, 2009. He was born in Butler, Mo. Feb. 14, 1914 to Charles Elmer and Golden Flickinger.

His family traveled from Missouri to Kutch, Colo. by train and then wagon from Mathison, Colo. in 1919. In 1946 the family moved to Del Norte then to Saguache in 1950.

Virgil worked hard as a farmer and rancher until his retirement in 1976. He then moved to Salida and later moved to Florence.

He married Faye Miller in 1976.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Golden Flickinger, brother Elmer Flickinger, sister Vada Keeling and step-daughter Teresa Antol.

He is survived by his wife Faye of Canon City; brother Robert (Marcella) Flickinger of Saguache; sister Arlene Martz of Del Norte as well as by step-son Sam Hammer of Tenn. and numerous nephews and nieces.
