Unlicensed juvenile rolls minivan

Posted: Friday, Apr 5th, 2013

ALAMOSA COUNTY — A 14-year-old male driving without a license rolled a white Astro minivan Friday afternoon at the intersection of Alamosa County Road 14 South and Alamosa County Road 101 South, sending both him and his seven-year-old passenger to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center for serious injuries.

The extent of injuries was unknown as of Friday evening.

The State Patrol did not release the juveniles’ names but have cited the 14-year-old driver with careless driving, driving without a valid license and no insurance.

The driver was headed westbound on Alamosa County Road 14 when he ran off of the road and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to yaw and rotate clockwise, according to the Colorado State Patrol, one of many responder units on the scene. The minivan then rolled over one time, throwing the passenger through the rear window.

Speed was not determined to be a factor in the accident, but neither youth was wearing a seatbelt.

Responding units included the Alamosa Sheriff’s Department and the Alamosa Fire Department.
