Weather was perfect for Easter events

ALAMOSA — When you’re planning an event for the first time, you really don’t have any idea how it will go over. Will it be a success? Will people like it? Will people even show up?

Well, citizens of Alamosa, you did more than show up for the first-ever Easter Egg Hunt held Saturday in Cole Park.

According to organizer Dylan Brown, they put together 20,000 plastic eggs with all sorts of goodies in them. For the older kids, there was cash … as much as $20 in some eggs.

Authorities estimated the crowd to be in the 2,000-3,000 range, with all ages present.

It kicked off with a Fun Run, sponsored by Justin and Brittany Johnson, owners of SLV Sports & Wellness. The run was just under 2 miles and the overall winner was Vanessa Villalva, second place went to Mason Schipp — both in the 12 and under category!

There were many, many volunteers spreading eggs — including Alamosa police officers.

And there were opportunities for pictures with the Easter Bunny and several food trucks set up shop.

The weather was near-perfect and families could be seen lounging all around after the egg hunt.

The first egg hunt was kicked off by Mayor Ty Coleman who later could be heard saying under his breath, “I think the city is going to have to get involved with this next year.”
