Two vehicle crash injures both drivers

ALAMOSA — Isaac Martell, 25, of Alamosa and Verna Schwarz, 58, of Crestone, were involved in a two vehicle crash January 15. Both were transported to medical facilites for their injuries.

At approximately 4:13 p.m. on January 15, 2021 near Estrella, a 2013 Honda Civic driven by Isaac Martell 25 of Alamosa, was traveling eastbound on Colorado 368. A 2016 Mazda CX-5 driven by Verna Schwarz 58 of Crestone, was traveling southbound Colorado 285.  The Honda failed to stop at the stop sign and attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Colorado 285.  The Mazda collided with the driver’s side of the Honda as it entered the roadway.  Both vehicles came to rest on the roadway on their wheels.   

Schwartz sustained serious bodily injury and was transported by ambulance to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center for her injuries.  Martell walked away from the scene and was picked up by a passerby.  He was later contacted by law enforcement and transported to the Conejos County Hospital for his injuries.  Drugs and alcohol are not a contributing factor in the crash. The crash is still under investigation.
