Lady Moose blank Pagosa to remain in first

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School girls soccer team defeated Pagosa Springs on Friday by a score of 3-0 at the AHS stadium. The win helped the Lady Mean Moose to remain in first place in the Intermountain League and set up an important match-up at Bayfield today.

With a win, the Lady Meean Moose will win the league title.

“If we play like we did today, we can beat Bayfield again,” said Alamosa coach Kelly Wubben.

It was the Lady Mean Moose’s second win of the season over the Lady Pirates. Both wins were by shutout.

Alamosa took the lead in the 18th minute as Leah Higareda sent a pass past Lady Pirate goalkeeper Kiera Davis and into the box. Kennedy Hillis was there to finish off the play with the goal into a wide-open net.

Higareda scored the second goal of the game just 17 minutes later with Araceli Molina getting credited with the assist.

The Lady Mean Moose led 2-0 at halftime.

Higareda scored the final goal early in the second half as she took a pass from Jayden Wubben and put a header into the net.

The Lady Pirates turned up the pressure the rest of the second half but were unable to find a goal.

Pagosa Springs did outshoot Alamosa by a 7-3 margin. The difference being that all of the Lady Mean Moose shots went into the goal while Emmy Tibbitts stopped all of the Lady Pirates attempts. She had seven saves.

Pagosa accounted for the only three corner kicks.

Alamosa (5-4-1, 3-0-1 league) will be in Bayfield today with the game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
