Father, son to perform in Salida on August 12

SALIDA — Renowned bassist and composer Edgar Meyer returns to Salida Aspen Concerts Saturday, August 12.

Meyer played at Salida Aspen in 2006, 2013 and 2015. This Saturday, he will perform with his violinist son George Meyer, who is making his Salida Aspen debut.

The program begins at 7:30 p.m. at Salida High School, 26 Jones Avenue. Edgar and George Meyer will be interviewed on stage at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door, but students K-12 get in free, and adults bringing students only pay $10.

This will be the final concert of the 2017 season.

Edgar Meyer composes classical, bluegrass, newgrass and jazz music. In his recordings and premieres, he often performs with Yo-Yo Ma, probably the best cellist of the day, and with Joshua Bell, one of the top violinists.

George Meyer graduated from Harvard in 2015 and went on to get a master’s degree in violin at the Juilliard School the following year. He, too, is a composer. He has performed his own compositions at Chamber Music Northwest (Portland, Oregon), the Telluride and RockyGrass bluegrass festivals, and the Savannah Music Festival.
