Day two wraps up at Jeffco Stadium for State Track

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The torrential downpour waiting just around the corner didn’t slow Colorado’s state competitors one bit on Friday. Sanford’s boys made leaps in the standings, Alamosa’s boys and girls continued to add points to their score while 1A’s athletes started cementing some team points.

In 3A, Alamosa’s girls got on the board using a couple of relay races. The lady Moose tallied three team points placing in both the 800 Sprint Medley and the 4x200 meter relay races. Top placers in individual events were Lilly Lavier and Amaya Atencio. Lavier placed second in the girls’ 800M run with a time of 2:14.68 while Atencio finished sixth in the lady’s discus throw with a distance of 112’ 1”. Alamosa’s girls got more preliminary work done when the relay team finished first in the 400 meter, topping both heats with a time of 4:02.9. The girls will look to cement that time when they compete in the finals today at 5:25 p.m.  Alamosa’s boys also added their name to a finals list when they finished second place in their 4x400 meter relay. The final will take place today at 5:33 p.m. For Centauri Caroline Van Berkum took home an eighth-place finish in discus. Van Berkum threw 109’ 8”.

2A was headlined by Sanford. Brady Lenz had himself a day collecting a first place in the boys’ triple jump with a winning distance of 43’ 2.5”. Teammate Zach Sittler also placed in the triple jump with a distance of 40’ 9”. From Monte Vista Cedric Perea placed in the discus throw with a distance of 127’ 5”. The Pirates also qualified for a final placing eighth in the boys’ 4x 100-meter relay. The rest of 2A’s success was rather scattered. The girls from Del Norte’s relay team picked up 6 team points when they earned a fourth-place finish in the 2A 800 Sprint medley.

Camille Ruggles of Center took home a seventh-place finish in the girls 3200 meter with a time of 12:42.62.

And finally, in 1A it was the boys’ discus throw. Robert Gutierrez of Sangre de Cristo and Casper Freedle of Creede finished seventh and eight respectively. The finals wrap up on Jefferson County Stadium today starting at 9:15. For live coverage and results follow along at CHSAAnow’s website.
