CHSAA names All State Cross Country teams

AURORA — The All-State teams have been released by CHSAA and just as the San Luis Valley boys and girls performed well all year long they were recognized for their efforts.

From the girls of 2A, Sargent's Kendra Sears was named Second Team All-State. Sears placed in the top five of two meets with a first place finish at Del Norte's Invite. At regionals in Rocky Ford, Sears finished in sixth place to advance to the State meet. There the Sargent junior finished in 21:03 to take tenth place.

For the boys of 3A from Alamosa, Elijah Delacerda was given the honor of First Team All-State. DeLaCerda placed in the top five of every race he ran save the Joe I. Vigil  Classic. The Alamosa senior was ready for state competition from the beginning of the season. At the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede DeLaCerda finished in first place at the Norris-Penrose Event Center with a time of 17:08.

Two months later DeLaCerda returned to Colorado Springs for the State Meet where he shaved forty seconds off his time and placed fourth with a time of 16:28.

Representing the girls of the 3A class was Alamosa's Lilly Lavier, who was named Second Team All-State. Lavier was able to earn six top five placings throughout the season. Even topping the podium at the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede in August.

Upon returning to Colorado Springs Lavier was able to shed 18 seconds from her time however she would leave the state meet having placed fourteenth overall.
