Center picks up first win of the season at home

CENTER , Colo. — Tuesday evening the Center Vikings played host to league opponent Mountain Valley-Moffat (0-1-0). With three set wins Center (1-4-0) took the match handily for their first notch in the ‘W’ column. Last year the Center Vikings were a 2-17 team. The Vikings collected one of those wins at the hands of Crested Butte in a 3-2 fight to the finish and the other with via a 3-0 match over Cripple Creek-Victor.  

In Tuesday’s contest, the first set was hotly contested by both squads. The score climbed until it met and exceeded the 25 match point. That was when Center struck the deciding blow with a sideout and score combo to take the first act by a score of 27-25.

Things in the second act picked up similarly with both teams putting up scores in clusters. Again Center snagged the advantage with a seven-point run that proved insurmountable claiming a 25-12 victory to make it two sets to none.

Mountain Valley stayed aggressive in the third set keeping things close. The Vikings broke the set and the match open with a 5 point run that put them out of reach closing the final set by a score of 25-19.

With their first win of the season Center will take their act on the road. The Vikings will meet Southpark up in Fairplay this Friday Aug. 31 with a start time slated for 3 p.m. Mountain Valley-Moffat will continue their road trip when they head to Aguilar Sept. 7 in search of their first win.
