Alamosa youth receive TSJC T-shirts at the end of summer school.

ALAMOSA — For the fourth year this summer Trinidad State Junior College Valley Campus, Alamosa Public Schools, and 21st Century Community Learning Centers offered Alamosa high school students a variety of courses, both academic and career and technical.

From June 1 through July 2 (Monday-Thursday) the students attended a morning core academic class in English, math, or social studies in which those who passed earned credit towards high school graduation.

In addition many of the students chose to take an afternoon enrichment course in cosmetology, scientific terminology, or emergency medical services.

Sixty students were enrolled in the program and all classes were taught at Trinidad State Junior College with Alamosa High School instructors teaching the morning academic classes and TSJC instructors teaching in the afternoon.

The Alamosa instructors included Andy Lavier, Amy Ortega, Paula Parker, and Marie Szkalak. The TSJC instructors included Sheila McGinnis, Robert McWhirter, and Shannon Winters.

Jeff Rautus directed the program.

Transportation, breakfast, lunch and classes were provided through 21st Century Grant Funding for these Alamosa students. Those who stayed for the closing and the pizza lunch received a TSJC T-shirt.
