ALAMOSA — A cloudburst Saturday afternoon resulted in a small mudslide on the eastern edge of Fort Garland that caused one lane traffic on US 160 during clean up operations.
Colorado Department of Transportation Supervisor Ron Quintana said CDOT personnel closed both lanes of the roadway initially at 4:45 p.m. and shortly got one-lane alternating traffic flowing into and out of the community and along the major East - West Valley highway. The clean up operation was completed by 7 p.m.
CDOT responded to the incident with a crew of four, a front end loader and a motor grader.
The heavy rain that fell dumped 3 to 4-inches of water in the CDOT maintenance barn in Fort Garland according to Quintana. He said the only damage resulting from the minor flooding was one computer power source.
Quintana said the water poured out of the building when the large overhead doors were opened.
There were no injuries associated with the small mudslide that happened between mile marker 258.4 and 258.7.
