Viola Martinez, 79



CAPULIN — Lifetime Capulin, Colo. resident Viola 'MJ' Martinez, 79, died July 19, 2009 at her home in Capulin under hospice care and surrounded by her loving family. Viola was born June 4, 1930 in Capulin to Eduardo and Rafelita Trujillo Dominguez. She married her husband of more than 43 years, Senon Martinez, Sr., on Jan 13, 1954 in Capulin.

Viola worked both as a homemaker and a blanket weaver. She had an amazing talent for weaving and sewing and some of her work is displayed in the Denver Art Museum as well as the Smithsonian Institute.

She loved her family dearly and enjoyed every minute with them. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and especially cooking. Viola loved singing and music and in her earlier years she was a member of a local band.

She is survived by her children: Eduardo (Geraldine) Ortiz of Capulin, Joyce (Alex) Espinoza of Monte Vista, Colo., Nelson Paul (Rita) Martinez of Capulin, Genevieve Cisneros of Aurora, Colo., Amada (Lawrence) Ruybal of Antonito, Colo., Senon (Elena) Martinez, Jr. of Cortez, Colo., Renee (Dane) Gylling of Alamosa, Colo., Frank (Mary) Martinez of Capulin and Eli (Sherry) Martinez of Capulin; her step-daughter Dianne (Carl) Eddy of Capulin; brother and sisters Ruben (Lucrecia) Dominguez of Commerce City, Colo., Mary Gurule of Capulin and Oralia (Arthur) Ortega of Denver, Colo. as well as by 45 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Senon, her granddaughter Deanne Cisneros, her step-son Levi Trujillo and her brothers Chuck Dominguez and Walter Dominguez.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Wed., July 22, 2009 at the St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Capulin followed by a Recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thur., July 23, 2009 at the St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Capulin. Interment will follow services in the Capulin Cemetery.
