Elenita Prunty, 90
SHERIDAN, Wyo. — Elenita Prunty, 90, of Sheridan, Wyo., a former Alamosa school teacher and graduate of Adams State College, died Wed., July 1, 2009 at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Sheridan. She was born May 12, 1919 in Clay County, Iowa to Fred Edwin and Wella Blanche (White) Anderson. The family moved from Iowa to Jaroso, Colo. when Elenita was six-years old.
Elenita attended school in Jaroso and Campion Academy in Loveland, Colo. and attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb. and she earned a bachelor’s of arts degree in elementary education from ASC in 1966. She taught second and third grades in the Alamosa School system from 1964 until her retirement in 1985.
She married George W. Prunty in Jaroso on July 26, 1942. Her hobbies included touring here and abroad, gardening, sewing and needlepoint, church activities, crossword puzzles and teaching Sabbath school. Elenita was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Alamosa and a member of the National Teacher’s Association.
She is survived by her son Fred (Sandy) Prunty of Sheridan; daughter Evelyn (Dune ) Smith of Newmarket, N.H. as well as by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, her parents, one sister, one brother and one granddaughter.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. July 31, 2009 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 313 Craft Dr., Alamosa.
Memorials may be made in Elenita’s name to the Alamosa SDA Church School, 313 Craft Dr., Alamosa. Kane Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
