ALAMOSA — Alamosa-Chama, Colo. resident Blanca E. Montoya, 46, passed away June 29, 2009 in Pueblo, Colo. after a long battle with cancer. Blanca was born Aug. 23, 1962 in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico the daughter of Guadalupe Castañon-Ruiz and Carmen Munoz-Menchaca.

She worked in Blanca’s Fiesta Restaurant, which was named after her, in Alamosa. Blanca was the best mother on earth, she was an excellent cook and enjoyed doing needle point and crafts for gifts, she was very active in church and loved spending time with her family, making piñata’s for her daughters.

Survivors include her loving husband Gilbert A. Montoya “Andres” of Chama; mother Carmen Munoz-Menchaca of Alamosa; three daughters Manuelita Montoya, Zilah Mercedes Montoya and Xitlaly “Lally” Ascencio all of La Jara, Colo; step-daughter Gabriele Montoya of Alamosa; one son Gustavo Acuna Castañon (Veronica Gonzalez) of Blanca, Colo; step-son Andres Montoya of Chama; grandchildren Israel Montoya, Amado Montoya, Trent Davis all of Chama; sisters Abigail (Luis) Castañon-Munoz; Maria Belen (Hector) Penreya of Zacatecas, MX; Alicia (Carlos) Castañon-Munoz of Del Norte, Colo; brothers Gilberto (Manuelia) Castañon-Munoz, Hugo Castañon-Munoz both of Zacatecas; special uncle and aunt Pablo Menchaca-Munoz and Conception Munoz both of Los Angeles, Calif. as well as by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Blanca was preceded in death by her father Guadalupe Castañon-Ruiz and daughter Claudia Acuna-Castañon.

A prayer service will be held on Fri., July 3, 2009 at 7 p.m. at Grace Chapel in San Luis, Colo. Blanca’s funeral service will be held on Sat., July 4, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Grace Chapel in San Luis. Interment will follow at Church of God in Christ Cemetery in San Luis. Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Romero Chapel in Alamosa and again Thursday and Friday from 1 until 5 p.m. at Romero Chapel in San Luis who is in care of the arrangements.
