Most people too acidic

ALAMOSA — Marcia Heusted, assistant professor and director of the holistic health and massage therapy programs at Trinidad State Junior College, offered a lecture Wednesday outlining the benefits of holistic medicine for everyday aches and pains.

To keep immunity strong, Heusted said to drink water. “To determine how many ounces per day, take your body weight and divide it by two. Drink most of your water early in the day,” she advised. Caffeine has a tendency to make people lose water. It is necessary for the human body to digest and absorb vitamins and nutrients. Water also has detoxification benefits by cleaning out the liver and kidneys, carrying waste out of the body. A person who is dehydrated will have difficulties concentrating, the brain will not be working at full capacity, and the body becomes fatigued.

Drinking enough water can improve energy, increase mental and physical performance, carry waste from the body, encourage weight loss, decrease headaches and dizziness, improve digestion and keep the body more alkaline, or non-acidic.

Heusted insisted people keep the blood ph alkaline. According to Heusted, most people are acidic. High blood acidity is a breeding ground for viruses and increases the rate of aging. To improve blood ph, Heusted said to “think green.” By eating green vegetables such as broccoli, lettuce, or cabbage, acidity of the blood decreases.

Removing or lowering the sugar intake improves the body’s overall health. It also decreases the risk for diabetes.

When ill, increasing oxygen will help decrease the duration of the sickness. Oxygen levels in the blood decrease as illness sets in. Heusted said the best solution to increasing oxygen levels is to take E3 Live, or algae, or liquid chlorophyll. Hydrogen and essential oils also help.

“Become user friendly with vitamin C,” Heusted said. According to her, vitamin C is water soluble and is safe for most individuals. Increasing vitamin C to 3,000 to 6,000 milligrams daily during the duration of the illness will make coping with it easier.

When affected by the cold virus, the inner body is wet and too damp, according to Heusted. As a result, body temperature decreases. “This is the time to increase your intake of hot fluids and foods like teas, soups, and bouillon,” she said.

Another way to improve immunity is to remove white food from a diet. “White foods tend to form mucous in the body,” she said. Heusted also encouraged people to learn about supplements such as Echinacea, Goldenseal, Astragalus, and Hydrogen.

She also stressed the importance of spending time with someone who listens. “Being fully heard without being fixed is an immune boost,” she said.
